Default Florida Spider Rigging & Single-Pole Jigging Questions

    Happy New Year folks!

Seeking some advice to expand my arsenal this year. I am confident in my longlining set up...got most the variables down to at least know what my presentation actually is - how effective it is, that part I'm honing.

    Spider Rigging:

Let's start with spider rigging. Most of the lakes I fish around here are not known for their "depth" or "structure". I've cruised various open waters with the side imaging and am not seeing those brush piles, sunken logs, road beds, downed trees, etc. that you read on the main message boards. Basically, I'm fishing salad bowls for the most part. For the gear, I have a set of Southern Crappie Rods in 14' paired with Spyderlok rod holders. What would a good rig be to start with a single jig and maybe one rod with a double to learn it. Probably will only use 6 rods up front. What kind of artificials are effective down here for this method. Bear in mind, I don't use minnows. Not that I'm against them at all, just a laziness factor. Nearest decent bait shop is 40 minutes away from home and opposite direction of where I'm fishing. Other than the rig, where on a lake would I approach this technique and under what conditions compared to longlining?

    Single-Pole Jigging:

Basically the same questions as above. When would I start dipping the pads/grass? What is a good minnowless rig to use (line/rod length/etc)?

based on what you said about no live bait and all....I'd just stick with long lining! You'll cover 10x more water than pushing...if you did want to push...i'd go 3/4 oz or more trolling sinker...6lb fluorocarbon leader about 2' long and a curly tail grub with a 1/16 oz head and push .8 ballpark..... works pretty well if you know your not gonna get hung...you could break 3 rods before you got the boat stopped. We mainly push timber and bushpiles with live bait...cause we're moving slooooow....

Maybe I should have prefaced my search for knowledge by disclosing that I have no intention of employing said techniques on the Holy lakes of the Florida...

Thanks to the 3 folks who responded on and off forum, it is greatly appreciated!

I fish open water lakes with no structure. I use 1oz sinker and 1 jig on 6# fuloro. When its windy I get up to 2.5kt sometimes still catch fish. When its calm I do best at 1- 1.5 kt cover more area is the trick for open water any way you fish.

Cant help ya on spiderrigging as I am still learning that myself. Far as single polin, 10' or 12' pole and jig of choice in pads or brush or sunk trees or channel markers or dollar weeds mats anywhere they cannhide or something to nest beside or on. Now is as good a time as any to start looking. Just depends on where they wanna be at that time.

100% sarcasm and serious about it Stu, and a poke at the recent Crescent drama. Just seems there's a different "vibe" on the Florida forum.

Fact is, many of the tactics of this wonderful sport that are discussed on the main forum and our neighbors require some tuning and sometimes complete overhauls based on the lake systems and environmental factors down here. Would love to see more educational resources on our state forum in addition to all the positive social posts.
