What's a turnover.........what's thermocline.....what's oxygen level.....just go fishin and leave that crappie to the pros.. If they bite great...if they don't great
Do Florida's lakes go through a 'turnover'?? Do they have a thermocline?? A lot of fish are caught near the bottom, but is the oxygen level very high?? What would one measure the oxygen level with??? Think of questions all the time, maybe i should go fishing and get over them.--shu

Not sure but the fishing at Lake Kissimmee was really good on Oct, nov, and Dec in 2011, then after that people that had been catching a lot no longer were. They were talking about lake turnover being the cause. I wish I could remember more specifics about what was going on with the weather then. I cant remember if it was really hot gor the time of year or really wet or the canal dredging or what but something had happened that had changed the dynamics.

Most all lakes go through some type of turnover, much harder to locate and watch
in Florida lakes do to most being so shallow. Watch your graph's, turn up the
intensity and will note the thermocline line depth as small line of clutter. Thermocline
line can be found also when you drop your minnows to low in water and they die, due
to lack of oxygen. Lake turnover can be fouund in area's where grasses, hydrillia, weeds start to die, turn brown etc. Usually late September -October - Novermber
depending on location in states when turnover starts - oxygen in water starts to go down. Lakes cycle through over years with good to bad hatches of fish, Kissimmee,
4 yrs ago and for about 3 yrs had a good number of larger crappie caught, now past
2 yrs size has dropped off quite a lot, believe it to be hatching effect and amount
of editable forage it takes to put on the zize & weight of hatch in any particular year.
Fishing pressure also factors in. Its amazing the amount of pressure put on Crescent year after year and that basin continues to produce large crappie. It has an outstanding variation of both fresh & saltwater food source...is my thinking.
Harold awesome! Thank you for explaining that. Very well written. Have you written articles on fishing? Would love to read more.

Thanks for the info. Have had minnows die near the bottom, does turnover happen with a drop in water temp??? Top getting colder than bottom and they reverse??? Time to get 2 real cane poles and go fishing and out of the house.--shu

Turn over is when warmer water settles to bottom forcing cooler water up until
lake becomes equal or abient ....
As far was writing articles, at present time write for Florida Crappie Club,
articles about tournaments in Lakeland Ledger, Star Banner, Ocala, Leesburg
Constititional, Cdc, and working a deal with In Fisherman for monthly thoughts
about Crappie Fishing. Now my right arm is messed up trying to pat my shoulder
while bragging.
Thanks for listening on "Howie's Soap Box".
