Nice fish! Someone from Texas had a post last year about catching them. I never knew they were in public waters in the states till then. Must be a southern thing. I have never heard of anyone catching them up here in ky.
I was fishin' for bluegills/bream/shellcrackers on Jesup, and only had three keepers, three hours in. ? Then the bobber went under, and I set the hook. The pole bent over, and the fish didn't even budge. I knew right away that it wasn't a gar or a catfish, just by the way it fought. It fought kinda like a bluegill. I said to myself, "Self, this is gonna be a personal best. One for the wall." When I finally got it to the boat, I said to myself, "Self, GET THE NET!" I got it into the boat, and, I said to myself, "Self, that's a funny lookin' bluegill." So, I put it in the livewell.
Around the point from where I was fishin', there were five other boats. And, I said to myself, "Self, surely, one of them will know what this is." So, I trolled up to the first boat, took my fish out of the livewell, and asked him what it was.
"That's a Tilapia - you gonna keep it?"
"You mean, like we get at a restaurant."
"Yep - you gonna keep it?"
So, I kept it, and, it was real tasty!

Nice Howard, a rare catch indeed....
crappie down !
Self did a good job! Unusual to get them to bite....I know that was a fight. I've seen people catch them on buzz baits when they're bedding..... When we have a real cold snap you can troll around and scoop them up with you net....
