Well the masses are clamoring forresults. Ask and you shall receive. I wanted to fish this tournament buthad a BBQ to attend around 1 so I just did a morning trip and fished till 11am.I brought my son so he could see how the pros do it. 3 important itemsI'll mention out of the gate, I have a rear mounted trolling motor andthis was only my second time fishing the lake and the depth finderwasn't working so it was an uphill battle. Started off in a cove on thenorth side of the lake, I was alone up there so I figured I wasin the wrong place, caught 2 nice fish in there, 2 bluegill and hooked about 5large gar. So I did find where the gar where hanging out. Big fish of the dayat 1lb 14oz came in here as well. After having a gar devastate the spread Ipicked up and located the tournament fleet, positioned just north and east ofthe canal that connects the main bodies of the lake. I knew when I saw the10-15 boats in that area I should have started there, especially because thewind was dead in the morning, but hey you learn. Caught 3 more decent fish andsome dinks out there, but the wind had picked up and boat control from the rearwith the trolling motor was not possible. So I’d use the big motor then docontrolled drifts, but the bite seemingly tapered as the wind increased. In thespirit of the tournament I weighed my 5 fish which averaged 1 lb (5lbs total),nice little dinner. What did I learn? Need front mounted trolling motor, working depth finder and just maybe a few more than 1 days of fishing a lakebefore expecting results. But hey “Low Budget High Expectations” right? Hopethis tides you over till the real results are furnished.
