THE BIG ONE
The Florida crappie club classic took place on Crescent lake this past Saturday December 9,2017 we had 33 teams qualified to fish the classic and 26 actually competed on tournament day under VERY ROUGH conditions! Reports came in during the week from people prefishing that we could possibly see a new club record weigh at or over 16lbs total with 7 fish!! Boy did the conditions take a turn for the worst Friday afternoon! Teams woke up Saturday morning to windy wet and cold conditions. There were still a pile of big quality specks caught with it taking 11lbs or more just to get into the top 10 and a 2lb 11oz big fish it showed that the big fish on crescent were ready to play!!!

There were a few items / ideas brought up at the annual board meeting Friday night.
These items were read & voted on Saturday after the weigh in by majority show of hands
(1) 2018 - the present schedule may be changed from time to time whereas a lake that normally was on the
southern division will be dropped and a new or present lake that was on northern division will be the replacement.
This rule passed by majority show of hands
(2) 2018 - Would teams in 2018 like to see a plaque or trophy be awarded to 1st-2nd & 3rd place winners for each
lake, along with money.
This rule did not pass = monies collected for tournament will continue to be awarded on 1 n 6 basis with big fish
separate
(3) 2018 - There will be a $25.00 club joining fee charged or $50.00 total for single person team.
Meaning each year every member will be charged $25.00 to join - If you are a single team the charge is $50.00.
There will no longer be a "show up, pay entry fee and fish" rule to be part of Florida Crappie Club.
Monies charged for joining club will be 100% put into the total payoff at the classic in December.
This rule passed by majority of hands.
Darryl Cole - will collect dues monies for members
I for one am not in favor of a couple items that was passed by "the group"
(1) Club was founded on premis of "Teaching newcomers to improve their crappie fishing skills".
(2) Club became largest in the Southeast by not charging initial fee - "just come, pay entry and fish with us motto"
A bonus was the development of the Classic -
Expanding the tournament schedule from 10 tournaments a year to twenty 20)
Now in addition to paying entry fee - must also pay $25.00 per person (one time per yr)joining fee.
(3) When looking at schedule - majority of teams live within 45 mi of Leesburg and majority of tournaments
are within 45 mi of same. Now that doesn't take a rocket scientist to check the larger turnout at various lakes in the
area.
(4) Newspaper coverage of events was dropped with exception of Lakeland Ledger mainly for poor showing of teams in
tournaments ie: Ocala & Leesburg papers
