Lake Istokpoga aquatic plant management meeting on Oct. 11
Managing plants and habitat in Lake Istokpoga will be the topic of a public meeting hosted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) on Oct. 11, from 6-8 p.m. The gathering will be at the Bert J. Harris Agricultural Center Auditorium, 4509 George Blvd., Sebring.
The meeting agenda includes staff updates and discussions on snail kite populations, primrose control, potential revegetation/restoration projects and invasive plant maintenance and management objectives. After presentations there will be a stakeholder question and feedback period followed by a break. During the second half of the evening’s open house meeting, stakeholders will have the opportunity for additional discussions with staff on specific topics of interest or concern.
The FWC’s management plan for Lake Istokpoga has been developed with input from stakeholder groups consisting of waterfowl hunters, anglers, endangered species experts, boaters and lakefront property owners. These and other parties interested in the future of Lake Istokpoga are encouraged to participate in the ongoing planning process by providing valuable feedback through this facilitated meeting.
