Stop trying to kiss Gopher Snakes. They aren't the friendliest colubrids around.

My Dad used to get a kick out of knockin' snakes out of the willow trees down into my lap while we were canoeing.

Default Big snakes in Central florida

We have pythons, boas, anacondas, and monitor lizards around here and they may take your whole head. I have a fifteen foot boat and have alligators that are just as long try to take my plugs, shiner, and crappies. I have see gator turtles that are 3 feet long. Not to mention bull sharks and stingrays. You were lucky to not get really sick with infection.:D

Many years ago a young Airman that I supervised told me that there were only four kinds of snakes that he was afraid of. Assuming he meant the four poison snakes of the United States I asked him to name them. Big ones, little ones, live ones and dead ones he replied.

not many snakes around here, thankfully

we have some humongo snapping turtles though. When I'm fishing alone at night, they often come into the shallows and make a lot of racket when they spring up out of the water to grab frogs from the bank. Freaks me out, especially when they exhale from their mouths. I'm actually afraid to go out on my raft at night because of that. Had one brush my foot as i was wading last week

Fishin at Reelfoot Lake in Tiptonville, TN. last year, I had three (count em 3) Cottonmouths drop out of trees into my boat. For those of you who aren't familiar with a Cottonmouth - the get about three feet long, big around as a canning jar, very poisonous, extremely aggressive (they try to get in your boat with you on purpose), and always seem to have an attitude. After the third one dropped, I trailored my boat, cleaned my self up, if you know what I mean, and haven't been back there since.
