Default Whe you should NOT go fishing

I have just had one of those days. Day off from being productive, so I grab my stuff and head down to the pond. First thing I sat on a hook. Barb did not go in, just ripped my jeans, it was NOT one of mine. So I decide to take my boat out, my cute little kayak, LB1 is her name, pick up my takcle bag and discover ants have made a nest in it. My bad for leaving it on the ground. Take out all my micro magnums, random plastic boxes and took about 3 of them with me in the boat. First cast right into the bush on the shore, gave it a little tug and it came flipping back, wrapped around the ends of my other 2 rods about 4 times, plunked in the water on the other side of the boat and promtly hooked a bream. I managed to get it unhooked without blood or breakage, and decided to try down by the spillway. caught a couple of decent bream, the cast right around the rebar protecting the spillway, and the stupidest bream ever born hit my beetle spin dangling 2 inches out of the water.
I quit. I am going to sit in bed and watch old movies. I am offically sulking.
    Thanks for letting me vent.

At least I got out on the water, and the heron who has been MIA is back.
I did not sink my boat or break a rod.
I left my bag full of ants on the dock in hopes that the young punk who left his hooks all over the place will take it home. I am a bad bad person:D
I've had it for almost 20 years, so I can let it go. There were hundreds of ants....
    Thanks!

I hate ants. We have the fire ants down here and we have an understanding that they bite me as often as they can and I kill as many of them as I can. they may win a few battles but by golly I'm gunna win the war.

This might make you feel better Buffy.

So I sneek out of work about 4 hours early.I'm thinking today is the day.I can go without a half a days pay for the action i'm going to get into.
I'm loading up and the battery in the vehicle is dead. OK I says ,so I head up 3 blocks to the CO-OP.85$ later I'm heading home with a new battery.
The heat was building and that heavy battery realy snoockered me.
So now I've replaced batteries and left a wad of skin off my 2 knuckles under the hood somewhere.
As I go around the back I kicked the hitch with my shin.Man down!

OK I says if I can just get to the lake.Everything will be fine.
I got there after a 30 dollar bill in gas to fill up and some munchies that blew out of the boat somewhere between the store & the launch.

It's ok I'm here I says to myself.
The cool breeze was a welcomed sensation.
So I put the boat into the water & pull it on shore, then park the vehicle.
I go to start the motor on the boat & it will not start.
I pulled & pulled & pulled that rope.
That breeze got stronger and now waves are rolling over my transome.
In my total disgust ,I'm wiping the sweat from my brow looking down & I notice my gas line is not hooked up.

You have to know I'm an avid fisherman & pretty astute individual, but boy was I feeling like a rookie.
Well I did get on the lake & catch some fish.
I made it home without much ado, even got the fish cleaned & fried up.

So while I'm eating, shin sore ,knuckles still stinging a bit I was wondering was it all worth it..
    Heck ya.
Any day fishing is better than just about everything else.

I'm so glad I'm not alone. I feel your pain, especially your shin but yes getting out and catching fish makes it worth it. Think anybody will miss me in the next hour??? (no no must be repsonible, fight the urge....)

That is one of my absolute favorite Benjamin Franklin quotes!!!!

I've had so many days like that. Worst one happened this year.

First sunny Saturday of the year (in late March i think) here in Upstate NY. The forecast was for 55 and sunny, so I made plans to take my son and his best friend fishing for perch at a lake about 30 miles away.

Get the boat in the bed of the truck, load up all the gear, swing by and pick up my son's friend and head out to the lake. So far, so good. We're all in a great mood, excited to be getting on the water for the first time this year.

Well, we're going down this country road, I just told the boys I would drive by the taxidermists so they could see where my wife's pike was being mounted, like I said we're going down this country road, doing a nice legal 55mph and suddenly the engine in the truck quits. No bang, no cloud of smoke, it just stops running.

After killing the battery trying to start it, I call AAA and they tell me it'll be an hour or so for the tow truck to get there.

I'd say the day was a waste, but while we waited to be towed, the boys explored the ditch next to the road, we all joked around a bit, and managed to somehow have a little fun. I think it had to do with being in the good old outdoors on a sunny day, with good company, that made the day turn out OK even though the fishing trip itself was a disaster and it took me three days to figure out what had broke in the engine (oil pump drive gear stripped - also turns the distributor).

A sunny day in the great outdoors can often turn a disaster day into a fond memory.
