I bet the turtle is still laughing about that one. Hope your ok now.
Me and my younger brother were fishing for whatever were bighting,I had a jitterbug on.About 10' from shore a huge snapping turtle rose from below the jitterbug, grabbing it before I could pull it away.Down he went with my lure,I kept steady pressure on him,and slowly walked him toward shore.
The turtle poked his head up right at the bank,I pulled hard trying to walk him onto dry land.Have you ever had a moment just prior to something going wrong, yet you continue on ? This was my moment.Almost like slow motion,I saw the turtle open his mouth, releasing the jitterbug with all its deadly skin grabbers right at me.
I didn't realize at the time that the flesh on your bicep area is dang tough, yep, there it was a double hooker, hanging from my tricep.I cut the line, wiped the sweat ( tears ) from my face and faced the fact,I needed help.I retrieved a pair of needle nose pliers and attempted to push the barbs through the skin, once done, simply snip the barbs and presto, hooks would slide out.
This is the moment I realized how tough bicep skin is.I pushed and twisted with all I had,but could not pop the barbs through.Phase two,new plan, little brother would take my fillet knife, when I pushed the hooks again,he would slit my skin, allowing the barbs to pass through.
Brother agreed he would gladly cut me with the knife,I pushed hard as I could, brother took the knife, but just as he was to cut,I noticed his complextion was an ashy green.Of all times for him to pass out, down he went, leaving my skin untouched.
I reacted by yanking the pliers as I reached to catch him, resulting in both barbs exiting backwards and out of my arm.Simple as that,I had a jitter bug with two strips of bicep skin hanging from the barbs.
Brother roused, looked at me and said" don't make me do it,I can't do it"
Like he was any help at all.

Man that brought back some bad memories. My nephew got a crankbait in his thigh. When he yanked on it I got queasy. Then he took out a knife and I fainted. Finally after I came to, I told him about the snips in the boat and he cut the barbs off. Pheww, I don't feel so good!!!
Hooks hurt
