I have snagged sticks in the current that pulled like fish.

I live in Las Vegas for four years and the fishing option s without a boat are kinda slim. A buddy I worked with invited me to go after catfish in a city park pond with him. I went because any fishing is better than no fishing. Sitting on the bank tight lining chicken liver was more affordable for a guy living pay check to paycheck than driving to Lake Mead hoping to catch a stripper from the bank.

We had each caught a couple when I got a bite. I set the hook hoping for another stocked canned cat. The fight didn't feel right but it was definitely alive. When I got it to the bank we were shocked to see a 3 pound goldfish. I am talking about double tail, bulging eyed fishbowl kind of goldfish.

I also hooked a 5 foot gator in the Arkansas River on a buzz bait.

I was fishing with my cousin back in November in 30 fow. We had been catching nice 2 lb crappie there off of a rock ledge. My line suddenly felt heavy and I set the hook and told him that I had another good one coming in. He had the net ready. I told him that this one didn't feel like a crappie and I thought it might be a white bass or maybe a cat. Well, it turned out to be an old plastic WalMart sack half full of silt and mud. Yep, I caught a WalMart sack. Since then when my cousin and I have fished together, he always says at sometime during the trip......"hope you catch another WalMart sack today." GTT

I had a similar experience fishing for rainbow trout in the tail race behind the dam of Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas. My brother hooked a trout and was fighting it when the fight suddenly stopped and the line went slack. We thought the trout just got off the hook so my brother began reeling in and taking the slack out of the line when all hell broke loose. He fought the fish and when he got it close enough to the bank for us to see we saw a largemouth black bass was on the line. When he landed him we found out the bass had inhaled the trout he was reeling in and apparently had run right toward us giving him all that slack line. It weighed just over 7 pounds.

I was vertical jigging for crappie off a farm pond pier one winter and had something absolutely stop my jig. It bucked hard when I set the hook and started pulsing towards deeper water. I reeled the line down to the water and lifted the rod tip and up came 4 tall beers, still held together by the plastic rings. My jig had caught one of the empty plastic rings. My buddy & I finished the cold beers off and continued fishing.

I used to work at a tackle shop and it was my turn to work, so the owner went with a few friends to fish behind the dam of the local reservoir. He had a strike and it took off down current as soon as he set the hook. It stayed it the current and was pulling and pulsing the rod as he reeled it in. He was sure it was a decent sized fish. It turned out to be a men's black mesh shoe in size 7 &1/2, so he brought it back to the shop, cleaned it up, and mounted it on a plaque with the plate under it reading "7 & 1/2, the date, DAM" It still hangs in the tackle shop.

I have a similar experience. Walleye fishing below a waterfall in Rainey Lake. Mn. The waterfall created a decent current as we drifted minnows. I hooked a dandy. Got it off the bottom and it ran every which direction. When I got it in the boat I was shocked to see that I had caught the very elusive Mitchell 300 spinning reel. Like Yak Fish it was mounted with date and location, complete with barnacles attached. Still sits on the shelf in my tackle room.

Was fishing Grand Lake O the Cherokees, in Grove Oklahoma when we saw some sandbass surfacing. Throwing 1 oz castmaster spoons we were hauling in the sand bass, and I finally hooked the state record for sure, then decided it had to be a catfish as there was little fight, just a huge pull as it came in.
Finally pulled up a 50' coil of nylon rope like is used on sails of sail boats. All covered in algae. I took it home and put it in the washing machine and 10 years later or so, its still used around the farm for different issues.

I went catfishing with some buddies from work one night and didn't have much action. Things were so slow that we started messing with one of the guys who always ran his mouth. He had set his spinning rod in a 5 gallon bucket full of water. He'd put the reel sticking out the outside of the bucket, so the rod was always straight up & down. By accident on his way to the cooler to get another beer, a friend kicked the side of the bucket as he walked behind it, and the vibrations made the rod tip look like the other guy had a bite. We all pointed at the rod tip and called his name ( he was busy talking & not paying attention), so he jumped up, scrambled to the bucket, and violently snatched the rod back, like he was setting to hook on a monster fish. Of course there was no fish, but now it was a game. Every time he'd start talking, somebody else would kick the bucket and make his rod tip bounce. Of course, motormouth would scramble over to his rod and snatch it back, like he was expecting a 50 pound catfish on the other end. Only there was no fish.

He walked away from his gear to answer nature's call, and another one of the guys tied a 16 ounce glass coke bottle to his line & tossed it out into the river. Once motormouth got back to the group, somebody bumped his bucket again, but this time when he set the hook, the rod started bucking and pulling back. I don't know if you've ever tied a glass bottle to a line and tried to reel it back through a current, but it pulls like a real catfish. Motormouth eased down to the water's edge with his giant landing net. We all fell out laughing when he reeled up that bottle.
