Thanks for a good laugh!
In the mid 70's I went with a couple of brother-n-laws to 61st street pier in Galveston. There was one guy on the pier that had several rods out and was running from rod to rod. I had cast out and was watching him make another cast when I felt his bait settle right on top of mine. Told the in-laws what was happening. When I would make a slight tapping jerk on my line his would take a dip. We watched as this got his attention. After he got over to his pole I tapped a little then a hard tap. His took a deep dip and he grabbed it and set the hook. We about died knowing he didn't have a thing.
FISH ON
I was fishing below a dam one morning. If you got there early enough, you could cast a countdown rapala as far as you could and get halfway across the tailwater, but, if you caught anything, you either had to climb down below a thirty foot wall, or crank the fish up if it was small enough. But, the tall wall made it a challenge to cast a good distance. So, I am fishing and I happen to notice that a school of striper that had come from the reservoir downriver( Tims Ford) up the elk river to the Woods Dam. These were huge fish and they were breaking three across like dolphins! I was so excited and I had the perfect lure for it - a Redfin - that I quickly tied on. Due to the distance I needed to cast, I left out a leader of about three feet on my spinning reel. I wound up and, as hard as I could, SLUNG - not casted- SLUNG that bait as hard as I could. At the same time, I thought that someone had grabbed my by the SEAT of my overalls and tried to throw me OVER THE WALL!!! Of course not. I had snagged my OWN seat with that redfin. I had to pull my overalls off to get to the hooks and fortunately there was no meat involved. By the time I got straightened out, I was pretty embarrassed, even though no one was around. The striper got away that day. That was the Dumbest thing I ever caught!
Lol...that was a good one...
While running trot lines in the river down the road from my house, I go to the first one, lines down tight, I thought catfish for dinner. All hooks empty, bait gone, got to the last hook, raccoon!! I kinda laughed, I had my fishing license on me, but if an agent came along would I get busted for no hunting license? I have caught turtles on my lines, but this was new one for me.
Crewmax42 - That was Awesome!!!
Wishing you Blue Skies and Tight Lines
I meant to say, "if you got there early enough, you might catch a walleye"...
I use senko worms when bass fishing and those truly do catch anything and everything. Have caught my share of turtles, bullfrogs, and snakes lol. Have also lost a rod and reel only to catch it again about 2 months later.
The strangest thing I ever caught though was a womans purse with her keys, wallet, lisencse, and everything in it - and also a big rock and it was zippered closed so someone obviously stole it. I turned it in to the police.
One of my favorite stories a few years back when a man found a ring in an 8 lb bass having been lost for 21 years...
