    Default Why My Momma Doesn't Fish . . . . .

I loved my Dad, but he wasn't known for being the most patient man. I love my Mom, but fishing is not her strong suit. Put the two of them together in a boat and there's bound to be a "tiff." On one of the few trips back in the early 90's when Mom decided she wanted to go "fishing" we loaded up our boats and headed over to Ky Lake around New Johnsonville. Paul and I were in our boat close enough to theirs that we could hear and see the adventure in Dad's boat. Mom had caught a fish and she was really excited especially since the bite was really slow. Dad had put it on the stringer which was hanging over the side of the boat. I don't remember the reason why, but at some point they were gonna tie off to a tree. My Mom, (deathly afraid of water, cannot swim and would drown you and her both if you tried to save her) decided she would be the one to tie them off. She got to the front of the boat and then LEANED against the tree to get the rope around it . . . you see where I'm going here, right? The boat starts to move away from the tree and my mom doesn't let go. I can hear Dad saying, Let go of the tree! Let go of the tree! Da** it, LET GO OF THE TREE!!! As he puts the motor in gear to move back toward the tree, she's already stretchin out - so she pushes off and proceeds to fly backwards into the boat. By this point, Paul and I have stopped fishing completely to watch it all unfold and I'm laughing so hard I've got tears coming out. The thing is, I had to hide behind my hat cause that would've wound Dad up even more. Mom ended up a little bit sore, they lost the fish - stringer and all and I think Dad broke a pole. I'm pretty sure that was Mom's last fishing trip for a long time.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
