I was sitting on a bucket on the white river one spring. The water had just began to warm and the crappie were turned on. It was windy so I took a break from the wind under some low hanging trees. I watched as a canoe went by and said "look at all those snakes!" I laughed thinking they were trying to scare me. Not being scared of snakes I kept fishing. After about 15 minutes I heard the branches above me. They sounded like they were about to snap. I looked up and there was a ball of snakes (10-15 guessing) right over the top of my head. I could have jumped and bumped my head on the ball. I am not exactly scared of snakes, but these scared me. I haven't been back to the spot in probably 10 years.
Caught so many fish today my thumb is sore from clicking the counter.

Here is a picture I took last year crappie fishing on Lake Rathbun in Iowa.
My wife saw it first, I took the picture then got it off the boat.

A few years ago, I took my dad bass fishin, early March, had been warm for about a week, well I'm in the front of the boat runnin the troll motor, and fishin, not lookin around. We were in a tight creek, had we had to hug the bank on one side. Well I'm lookin at this beaver on the other bank. Well my dad says Dave don't move, so I sit still, ask what is it, he says just don't move, again I ask what is it. So my lovin father say, well then just turn around and look, so I do, I'm eyeball to eyeball 6 inches away from a cottonmouth, that's layin on a limb that Ididn't see. Pop thought it was funny, I said evry four letter word that I knew, and made up some new ones.

    Exclamation Snakes

My crazy story with snakes was when I was fishing on Idols Dam and I took a break and walked down this little creek right beside the dam...well when I looked in the water what I thought was mud was really copperheads piled on top of one another, it was the most snakes I have ever seen in one place

Last year while fishing the Tenn-Tom waterway in Alabama, I noticed a black snake in the water swimming toward my boat. There was a pretty good size log between us and the closer he got to the log, the higher his head came up out of the water and by the time he got to the log he just slid over. By the time he got within 5 feet of my boat his head was high enough to just slide over in with me . I frailed him good with my pole but he didn't really want to leave, so I did. The Ala. game and Fish said they had several people report similiar things happening but they had never seen one themselves. It' against the law to carry a firearm on the waterway, so I 've got a CO-2 BB gun that works real good.

I'll never forget a time fishing in Indiana with my uncle one spring. The fishin hole was an old rock quarry, the clearest water I have ever seen. Anyways, we were fishin on a small dock with our fishin basket full of gills hangin the water.

Ol' uncle caught a fish, pulled the basket up, and forgot to tie the basket to the dock. We both watched as the basket full of bluegill sank to the bottom. Being a natural for the water, I didn't hesitate to get ready to jump in the lake. As I took my shoes and socks off, I look at the basket and I counted about 10 cottonmouths dashin in-n-out of the fish basket.

I've never gotten my clothes on so fast in my life....I'll never go swimming in Indy in my life.

    Default cottonmouth yoyo

Growing up hunting and fishing in Mississippi snakes are just a way of life, Cotton mouths are everywhere if you look close enough. I was fishing at night with a guy when I was a younger man and good 12 pack of adult beverages into the trip when I sculled the boat up to the next yoyo in the run I was on the front of the boat takin' and baitin' while my fishing partner worked on the cooler and gave me much greif, cursing me left and right about how slow I was scullin', how I was hookin' the minnows wrong anything he could ride me about he was. As he was railin' me good I got to the yoyo and could see that black head on that 3 foot congo and could see he was hooked good. So as my "use to be buddy" started barkin' out how slow I was at gettin' that fish off, I pulled out about 8 or 10 foot of slack line on the yoyo and using the line kinda just slung it in the back of the boat right at the boys feet as I told him "fine you can take this one off yourself". He would'nt have left that boat any faster if it had been on fire.

We went fishing on the Barren River and was loading the boat at the ramp. When I looked down there was watersnakes everywhere. It didn't take me long to look at them. Have you ever seen an old fat man move. It is not a pretty sight, but I was gone.....................LOL

Snakes are why I no longer carry a pistol while in a boat! LOL
They terrify me and one day we were crappie fishing and this big waterrattleranacondaspittingviper tried to get in the boat, well I proceed to lock and load on my 9 mm and was just fixing to machine gun him when my buddy starts yelling that if I missed we would be in the water with the snake! LOL Well snake got a repreive that day and I have never been back to his fishing hole!
