I just got a 997 to go along on the front of my boat it had a sticker on the front of box saying updated to 50 channel gps reciever or something like that is this the new antenna that is accurate to a meter?? I have the 1197 at the wheel and love it I understand the gps and can find anything I mark with it but know that the new gps technology coming will be far better keep up the good work

It will for 200 bucks. It has a fast satellite acquisition time, based on the info from the UBlox chip set data sheets. Of course, there are only 30-31 satellites in the gps constellation. Probably only see about 5-10 0f these visible in the sky at any given time. The UBlox chipset uses multiple same satellite inputs for more finite signal reception and integration.

I read the spec sheet on the UBlox gps chipset Humminbird is using. It sounds good.

This new receiver want do crap for the slow response. Slow response is the result of time mismanagement in the unit program. Only be fixed with program changes.

This turning off this function or that function to improve unit response is absolute bull.

I await the "fix" so I can use the trolling grid, which will not function properly without a good gps response.

I am waiting in line like the rest of the users for a fix........

I would like to think that spending $3000 in the last year on HB elec. would get me one free, i doubt it though.

As per HB they have two new antennas for 2009
A.) The 50 channel ant/receiver that is being packaged with 7,9, & 1100 units-This receiver is accurate to 2.5 meters, If I remember right the ant/receiver that came with our 997 units is accurate to 3 meters. So U have gained 6 inches…….This item if bought separately will retail for $149.00
B.) The new Hi-accuracy position receiver that is accurate to within ONE meter, This item will retail for $199.99
Hope this clears it up alittle—Tooooo much HOGWASH & HORSEFEATHERS Flying around, U all just listen to Cane Pole he will never mislead U.
