    Default GPS speed

Any who have the GPS 72( has problems now) or the 76 knows that you have to moving at a little TM speed for it to keep the arrow on the pointer page showing the right direction to you waypt. Anyone with a unit with the Hi-sense receiver is that still a problem? I think that is the units with X or Cx after the model #.

That's just the way GPS is. GPS can only know position, so to have the direction right the boat has to be moving forward so it can see the change in position. Prove it by backing the boat up, and you'll see the arrow turn around. Some higher end units have an electronic compass built in so they can show heading without movement.

This the one you have I see, question about the hi-sense RX, does it seem to update faster and more often? From what I read it is far under trees etc. and would not be much of an advantage out on open water. I took my 72, WAAS disabled, and a friends 76, WAAS enabled, and really not much difference that I could tell. I use the pointer page to spider-rig to my waypoints, just get close with the big motor. The bad thing is that the arrow does not upgrade very well going slow so I look at the distance to next and try to keep it getting smaller. The only time I use the map page is when I'm pulling crank-baits, may have to try that for spider-rigging too. Just keep your waypoint at the top of the page? For fishing I don't see an advantage to the compass but then I have never had a unit with one.

I don't think it updates any faster, they all are slow when you are barely moving. The newer 76csx i have is accurate within 3 meters, the old garmins i have owned were only accurate to within 10 meters. Thats 10 meters in any direction from when it said you was there, which means anywhere in about a 60 foot circle, now its anywhere within about a 20 foot circle. the electronic compass will work from a stand still. hope this helps jm.
