It's my understand that 12 amp is better than 8 amp.
But.......... 12 amp is also better than 25 amp.
I have no great theories for understanding this information.
Maybe some of you that have been boating longer than me can answer this question. It seems to me that over the years that opinions on charging batteries has flip-flopped back and forth. Years ago I was told to charge the batteries with a high amp charger that it was better for the batteries (12 amp or so). Then a few years back the popular opinion seemed to sway the other way toward charging your batteries low and slow (6 or 8 amp charger). Now it seems like the high amp chargers are gaining favor again.
Can anyone put this to bed? Is there any scientific evidence on the optimum way to charge a battery? Fast and hot with a high amp charger or low and slow with lower amps. Which method makes the batteries last longer?
