Try moving the GPS receiver farther away from the unit and see if that helps. Electromagnetic interference from the unit may cause poor receiver performance if they are too close to each other.
I got out on the lake this past weekend with my 997 for the first time. Right now I have my GPS mounted flat on a board about 3 -4 inches behind the unit and it did a lousy job of picking up. How do you guys do you have yours mounted?

I would make sure that you have it mounted in an area that has an unobstructed view of the sky. I think that the recomendation is 10 degrees above the horizon or something like that. Haven't heard where there is a problem mounting the GPS receiver close to our units (that was another brand). I have seen/heard where some mount them on a custom made stand that attaches to the unit's gimbal mount behind their units.
i have mine mounted besides driver console and works great..as you can see its bout 5 inches from the unit itself and have hadno issues..might want to check and make sure you got a good connection

I've read a lot about Lowrance's bigger units not working properly on the ram mount adapter because of the unit obstructing the satellites.

Here is my homemade portable mount since I use the 997 on two boats. It has worked fine for 6 months.

poor mounting but works fine.

I cut the top 10 or 12 inches off level of an old micro fiche reader then mounted that on top a cabinet I made to keep my laptop dry inside and viewable from the tiller. The 997 fits snug inside and I mounted the GPS puck right above it on top that canopy.

I've got some posts of some work I've been doing with a Humminbird 997 for any one that hasn't had a chance to see one.

Maybe I am missing the boat here. I thought the GPS puck was supposed to be mounted as close to the transducer as possible, not the display screen. The xducer is live sonar. Seems to me if you marked something with gps, you would be off the distance from the display to the xducer.
