Yes, they can mount on the same pole, and you can mount them wherever it suits you best. However You won’t be able to read both at the same time.

Welcome and congrats on the new toy. I recommend putting unit transducer on the back of boat and the livescope transducer on a pole of some sort (homemade PVC, fishing specialties, or Sealite). Both cords will hook up to unit at same time, but as mentioned can only view one at a time on screen.
They are a ton of fun. Try to not get frustrated with it (speaking from experience) There is a learning curve, even for a youngster (32) like me!
God bless,

I've always wondered the same thing. I have Lowrance electronics and just did an upgrade to two Elite FS 9 units and the Active Target box/transducer. I asked the guy at the shop how often people still use 2D, side scan, etc. while on the bow of the boat running the trolling motor and his response was that you'll basically never use them, but I'm not so sure. I think for the time being, I'll keep my older unit on the bow for mapping and it will still be attached to the 2D sonar transducer on the trolling motor and I'll run the Active Target on a Fishing Specialties or other pole. If at some future point I decide to start using the Elite FS 9 on the bow for sidescan, downscan or 2D as well as Active Target, I can then attach to the trolling motor or the boat at a later date I guess.
I run the side scan from the console and idle around to mark fish and structure, then go back and look better with livescope, I do have the down sonar on the trolling motor with an additional unit, just because I am hard headed (66) but really never use it.
