    Default Lithium Battery Question

I have a 24volt Ultrex 80lb I-piolet trolling motor, pulling a 20ft aluminum boat. My Ultrex seems to be always on number 3 or 4 as to power settings sometimes for hours at a time some times just for short periods. I can and do fish 10hr days occasionally.

My question is do I have to have two 12volt 100 amp hour batteries or could get one 24 volt battery maybe 125 amps?

The amp draw on the ultrex is 3amps per hr set on number 3 speed and 4 amps per hr set on number 4 speed.
What am I missing, the math says I can easily get 10 hours out of a signal 100 amp battery?

Its a cost issue for me so thats why I`m asking.

    Thanks for any advise!

On 4 for 10 hours you wont even draw a 50ah down past 70-80% remaining. I know because i run them trolling for crappies/walleye. Also on 4 im going almost 2mph with lithium, used to be hardly over 0.8-1.2mph with lead acids.

If you are running on 3-4 now, youll be 1.5-2 setting with lithiums im sure, hardly drawing more than an amp.

You absolutely do not need a 100 or 125ah IMO.

I suppose i should say why so little battery usage. It is because lithium does not lose voltage as the charge decreases, it runs at 13-13.2 constantly instead of 10.8-12.4 with lead acid. Higher voltage means less amp draw for the same power, your power draw numbers are probably based on 12.0v.

I thought i would be too small with 50ah on mk 80lb, but I have never been lower than 80% remaining at the end of one day.. my typical use crappie fishing for 6-8 hours is around 93% remaining. On trips, i usually dont have to charge until the 4th or 5th day. I actually got a few comments last year about not charging my boat while others have extension cords everywhere. "Have you even charged your boat this week?" "Not yet, still at 65%" and their jaws drop.

I am so glad I bought ionics with Bluetooth for this reason.

Are you running one 24 volt or two 12 volt batteries?

I am using two 12v because I wanted to use my noco gen5 onboard charger.

I use two 12v 50ah ionic. You can use one 24v 50ah if you want, there is no noticeable difference. I was simply not confident in the 24v chargers available, and wanted to use my noco onboard.

Only problem with 24 versus 2 12 volts is if the battery locks out any 12 volt source will get you up and running again, not so easy finding a 24 volt source while out on the lake.

Exactly,12volt chargers are easier to find also. Some of the 36volt chargers some arecselling dont look waterproof either. If you have problem with one battery could add a regular 12volt battery in ones place.
