    Default Helix 12 G3N and 10 G4N Freezing

Any one having issues with their units freezing since updating to 2.800? Me and my uncle are both having issues with it, we think. My Helix 12 MSI G3N freezes and I have to pull the power and restart it, works fine for a while longer. My uncle has a Helix 10 MSI G4N and his is doing the same, but hangs on the restart at the Humminbird logo screen. Even pulling the power for 30 minutes does not help. Just gotta keep trying and it will finally boot up completely. Nothing else has changed in either boat, so we are thinking it is the update. Could be 5 minutes or a few hours between when it freezes.

We have checked voltages, cable connections, etc. We each have other units in the boat that are not effected, but these are our only units with a MSI transducer connected. Any ideas?

Had a friend that had that trouble on a helix 12 after updating his and humminbird told him to take his map/ SD card out and it should fix it. He said they had a new update to fix it but I haven't been able to find it. He ended up sending it in to be fixed.

Oh that's a great answer humminbird.... Kinda need that map card. I have been checking almost daily for an update, but just as you said there isn't one yet. Thanks for sharing that info.

Anyone know how and what's the consequences of downgrading, if possible? I still have the files from the last update.

This has been an occasional glitz with my helix gen3 + gen4. As mentioned when I contacted customer support 1st thing they told me was to remove the map card let the unit boot up then put the card in. It's obliviously a known issue at humminbird and I've never updated any of my units accept when sent in for repair. Scott

Thanks for this post. I was going to update my 10 G4Ns but have decided against it.

I wonder if taking the map card out BEFORE you down load the update would prevent this from happening??

Remove all cards, copy all your personalized settings and data, restore settings to factory default, then install updates.
Never had a problem with updates on my 3 Helix units.

This is not an update issue IMHO as I've had this problem with all of my gen3 and gen4 without doing updates. As i mentioned humminbird is very aware as level 1 tech support told me the solution without batting an eye. I don't think they care to fix the issue and it is sporadic in it only happens about once a month with me and I fish 7 day's a week. Scott

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

ultraslab, I get what you are saying, but with my uncle's unit it is freezing more frequently than mine. It was like every 5 - 15 minutes on the last trip. He is going to try removing the map card when rebooting, but doubt that will solve the freezing issues. He seriously is not going anywhere that is doesn't already know well because he needs the sonar as bad as the map. Mine is doing this once or twice a trip. We never had this issue before the update. Might try the backup and flush method like slowhand suggested - that has been on my mind too.

What you are describing is not what I've experienced. Maybe it does have something to do with update. Please keep me in the loop. Scott
