    Default Garmin Quick Draw Width

Have you seen any videos explaining Garmin's quick draw in depth? Specifically, I'm look to determine the width of beam and width of area mapped. For instance if I map along a point that is 6' on my left, 12' on my right, and unit reads 9', will the map indicate 9' for the entire shaded area?

It’s my understanding the Garmin can map in 1’ increments so it should be mapping the whole change in elevation and not just split the difference. There are several good videos on YouTube that might help. Do a search in YouTube.

    I enjoy this guys videos.

If this is similar to the HB Autochart, you'll get better results by cutting perpendicular to the drop offs rather than along them.
In other words, go from shallow water right straight over the contour in to deep water, turn around, move over a bit and go from the deep water back up in to the shallow water.
I seem to get a better representation of the actual drop and shape this way.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

I know your looking for a width pattern it will cover. All I can say for sure is it took me quite awhile to chart my local 300 acre lake. I did it over two days time with some fishing in between and the changes were amazing how far off the depths were. Took time but was well worth it. I did it while on the trolling motor it will turn different colors letting you know your speed is right. It also as mentioned got right into 1’ increments and from what I can tell from vertical jigging mostly with livescope and new map side by side it seems pretty right on

My limited experience with it gives me the same impression as you described. I’ve been fishing narrower bodies of water which makes for frequent turning around and made me think about how it’s actually looking at depth.

I’m thinking (at least hoping) you are correct because the detail seems too good to be simply allocating a certain width the depth of a small vertical section. I’m hoping it is able to determine the actual contour that is the width of the circle around the boat icon.
