    Default Garmin black box

Watched a video from bass tank and they were saying you need a shutoff switch on the black box. Anyone have input on this, what are you protecting? Box pulling voltage when not in use or problems when charging the battery. I have never had a switch and not noticed any problem. But if i need one not a problem just never though about it. Where my box in mounted no problem unpluging it, always remove the chart plotter.

I think the switch is for killing the power so it doesn't drain the battery.

Thanks guys i talked with garmin and they do not give any instructions about a kill switch, the person i talked to though it wouild be good to have a kill switch. Not much help but i think i will do something to remove power while down. My ulterra needs power removed while charging, the motherboard can be damaged according to minn kota.

Since I have a dedicated battery for live scope I unhook power when charging and hook up only on water . No issues .

Mine gets removed after each trip from my kayak as well so it’s never been an issue.

I’m not worried about battery drainage. Have never had this issue and have everything rain off cranking battery. When I’m home the boat is hooked up to an onboard charger. Only thing I’m worried about is in the even house is struck by lightning. Switch would protect box from the possibility of getting zapped. True I have 10k in electronic insurance but a a cheap switch is less of a hassle to deal with. All my other electronics on my boat have a cutoff switch be it on the trolling motor or dash switch.

Lots of folks run their battery's dead & i didn't want to deal with ithat which is why I built a ammo can battery box for a 19 amp hour lithium nmc battery from amped outdoors & put a cutoff switch in it. The gls-10 & 93 sv are also on their own plugs that i attached sae connectors to to be able to unplug them when needed. I also installed an sae connector on the oppisite end to plug the charger into. Pretty foolproof actually & works great & can also be used for other things if needed.
