I went from a Gen2 Helix 9 to Gen4 Helix 12 getting ready for my Mega Live to get to Grizzly Jig. I received it yesterday, now I need a decent weather day to hook it up! I think Mega Live will catch up to Garmin and really preferred to keep all electronics the same.

    Grumpy1,
now that’s how to do a upgrade with upsizing to a 12” screen. You’ll be amazed at what it will show and how much time you’ll stay on a spot figuring out what they want. I made the same decision to wait until ML got released so all my graphs are connected and share waypoints with a single push of the mark button. I’d love to upgrade the single 10” graph n the front to a 15” but other installs have priority. Just adding high speed transducer, 5 port Ethernet and I’m done until late 2022.
Enjoy the ML and new graph. Don’t forget about drain wire when connecting the power cord and post some videos up the upcoming trips.

    Shaved ice,
There is a uninsulated third wire in the power cable with the red(12v) and the black(ground).
It is recommended by Humminbird to connect this drain to the ground block of the boat if applicable. My boat has a ground block terminal where all the instrument gauges connect to it so it was pretty simple to connect.
If there not a ground block on the boat, I would connect it at the same connection with the black wire.

Shaved ice, this is per humminbird installation instructions. It doesn’t show the actual wire but silver uninsulated wire is tucked into the end of the black insulation around the red and black wire. I think there is a piece of tape covering it.

I lucked out, the Bass Pro I bought the Live from, they have a MEGA. Headed back on Saturday morning.
