    Default Question about 12 volt

I have added 12 volt strip lights to my boat and I plan on powering them by craftsman 20 volt tool batteries. Do I need to run a step down converter to reduce the voltage to 12 volts and if I do what kind to buy. I am not electronic smart so any help will be greatly appreciated. I also am making my 360 mega portable and powering it by 20 volt batteries. Is there a problem with this thanks in advance Don

Most if not all LED lights have a wide range for voltage, if you are installing LEDs you should be OK. As far as the portable 360, I would not attempt wiring them to a 20 VDC battery with-out a step down transformer to step down the voltage from 20 VDC to 12 VDC. Size the transformer off the input power requirements of the device.

Both should give you a voltage range that they will run at. In order to size the converter you will need to know the primary voltage and the desired voltage and how much current draw is required. It would also be advisable to use a converter of a higher current capacity. In example if the fish finder draws 2 amps possibly get a 3 amp rated converter.
