Hopefully the service center would know or they would not be touching my boat. Ask them.
Is it possible to shorten the shaft on an Ulterra. Can get a 60" for a great price but it would be way to long for my boat. An authorized Minn Kota service center would be doing the work.

I accidentally bought the 60" for my boat. I opened the box and threw away the packaging (I was a little excited) before I realized what I had done. I asked about returning it but they said they needed the original packaging. I was a little bummed but mounted it anyway.
I took apart the head to see if I could shorten the shaft. It looks pretty easy to do. I figured I'd do it after the warranty was up.
It's been on there almost 3 years now and I don't even notice it anymore. It hasn't caused me any issues on my 18' bass boat.

It can be done but not as easy as cutting the shaft shorter. I bought a 45 inch as that was the length of my old TM. wishing I bought longer I inquired about getting a replacement shaft. It was told to me by an authorized dealer that it was way more complicated than that. Evidently the drive belt would need to be changed as well as control board, wiring harness etc. With the Ulterra you lose some length with the drive unit, I don't believe you would be disappointed with the 60 unless you have a small boat
Unless you fish a lot of shallow water less than 4’ it want be in the way at all . I have 19’6” boat and love mine I fish a lot by myself so if I’m up real shallow I can always fish out of the back and as stated in one the other post if your in big waves you will be glad you have a longer motor !
Sorry, My tm is the Terrova, it looks like the ulterra would be more difficult to modify. You might want to fish it for awhile before you modify it. You can trim the motor to whatever position you want it in, all up, all down or anywhere in-between.
My brother has the 45" Ulterra on his 17' ranger and has issues with the tm coming out of the water when it's really wavy. Sent from my SM-N960U using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
Should be easy for authorized repair shop. Shaft/trim belt length downsizing...I love my 60" Ulterra.
