How do you all feel about Helix 7 Cabelas has on sale now for $500? I know it’s a gen2, but it appears to have SI on it.

IMO, it all boils down to what you want to spend and how you fish. For me, I prefer having my best graph at the console so I can look while I drive. SI is especially useful at the console, but I don’t have much use for it up front while fishing. All I use up front is 2D and GPS map. Down imaging could be useful up front I reckon, but again, the boats not traveling fast enough to develop a good image.
HB 360 or the forward facing sonars would be a huge advantage up front, but I haven’t gotten in that game yet. IMO, buy the biggest screen you can afford with the most features. I have a 9”” at my console and a 7”” up front. It’s a heck of an upgrade from what I had, but I really wish I had 2 12”” units. Size does help tremendously. That Gen 2 Helix 7 is a solid unit. It has a really good image and will be a nice upgrade from the piranha. I don’t believe it’’ll network to other units, but I could be wrong. Networking your units is very beneficial to share waypoints and maps between them. I use that feature often when I’’m on the hunt. I know I’’ve rambled on, but long story short, buy what you can afford and learn to use it. Then, in a few years add another unit and continue to upgrade as you’’re able. Technology is always improving and there is some amazing stuff out there. You can catch fish without it, but it sure helps flatten the curve!
