I am about to pull the trigger on a new ultrex 24v. What size wire do y'all recommend? And do you recommend going with a high amp receptacle

I have my Ultrex direct wired and don't use a receptacle but that's just a matter of preference. Most important with these TMs is using correct size breaker and wiring as indicated by Rickie's attachment. Also, make sure you always disconnect or turn off TM before charging batteries.
I'm using the Battery Tender receptacle, since I move my 24V/80lb Terrova between 2 boats (I use quick-release mount MKA-53). I wired from receptacle to the battery/breaker with 8 AWG.
"Alive without breath, as cold as death; never thirsty, ever drinking, all in mail never clinking."
I like not having a “plug” on the TM also but some of the newer TM with the gps recommend unplugging the TM before charging the TM batteries. Something to think about anyways

Not sure about the MG series but recommended to either unplug or use a disconnect switch for the MK series when charging. Voltage spikes during charging can damage the internal boards.

I use 8 gauge wire when rigging a boat.
I use 6 gauge wire for all my feed circuits. Battery to a fuse block as close to the item I want to power.
I go to my local electrical supply store and buy the 125 volt 30 amp plug and receptacles. They hold up to my 36 volt motor when trolling constantly all day. I take the small trolling motor plugs out of my new boats and throw them in the garbage.

At least #10 wire, I prefer #8 I have not found a plug that I don't have to remove some of my wire from to make it work so I direct wire.
