I can tell you I've ran Garmin for many years including the earlier 93sv. I now have the UHD with the GT54 transducer and it's head and shoulders above even the plus unit. I am still tweaking on it but getting close.
I have a Garmin echomap 93sv on front deck and I am thinking about adding the new Garmin echomap 93sv UHD at the console but I'm wondering if the image quality of this unit is equivalent to the latest Humminbird units. i understand that the 54 or 56 transducers are much better on the new Garmin units and just checking to see if anyone has compared the two.

I have both the 93sv UHD and a Helix 10 mega si GN4. The garmin is not in the same class as the Humminbird in neither image quality or cost. That being said, I can see everything on the Garmin that I see on the HB, it's just not as clear. Basically, its really good quality for $1100 or even better quality for $2000.
Bass Pro has the 93 uhd 93sv for $599.97 and the livescope is 1299 after rebate. I'm guessing mega live is scaring them a bit (garmin, not bps)
Ok the price depends on the transducer in the package. The older gt54 is the one on sale for $600. The newer transducer gt56 is the one priced $1099. Both are UHD transducers and both are good the newer one has more power. For the savings if you could find the $600 one that’s what I would choose.

I think I can clarify some things for you. I talked to Garmin in length about the GT 54 and GT 56 transducers before I bought the GT54 UHD locator. What they actually told me was if I normally fish water a 100 ft deep or less then I should get the GT 54 transducer. The GT 56 was designed for water beyond 300 ft deep. I was disappointed my unit didn't have the new color pallets but the 15.10 update has them so good to go. The GT 54 transducer runs 440 and 840 Mhz vs the old units with 440 and 800 MHz on downscan and up to 1120 Mhz on side scan so a real increase in power on side scan.
Thanks TimY, that makes my mind up, I going to buy the one Cabelas has on sale Thursday morning, if they have any in Bowling Green.
