Default Using a Hummingbird 797 as portable unit

Ok folks, I purchased a used Hummingbird 797ci unit and before mounting it on my boat, I would like to check a spot on a bridge that don’t allow boats of any kind. That means float tubes, kayaks nor rowboats. Only way to do it is from on the bridge.
I was wondering if the side scan worked if the sending unit was still, or does it need to be moving even the slightest bit. I planned on rigging the sending unit up on a piece of PVC long enough to reach the water which is roughly 8’ below the bridge. Thank you for any help

It works but the images will be blurred or stretched out. It’s basically pinging the same spots over and over and over. If anyway you could walk along the bridge with it moving some it would give better results. But if just testing to see if it works it should do that.

Thanks Dave. I was hoping it would work. And yes I can walk along it on both sides. Folks have been known to chuck Christmas trees and such over the side and then their are debris from storms their too...want to eliminate dead spots and fish the more productive spots. I will get out their this next week while it’s too cold for the average person and see what I can find. Then when I want to fish without fighting my little aluminum boat in the wind, I’ll know where to start on the bridge. Thanks again Dave. Eric, aka Jamesdean.

You will probably have better results using just down image or traditional sonar for searching that area below bridge but try the side image as well. Good luck buddy!
