    Default Perspective Mode

I am this close to pulling the trigger on livescope, but have a couple of reservations that I’d like to hear from the experts on to maybe help coax me over the edge. I’ve fished with livescope in someone else’s boat on deeper brush piles in lakes that aren’t similar to what I regularly fish. Most lakes I fish are (very) shallow reservoirs with lots of wood cover, most of the time I’m fishing water that is at the deepest 10 feet and a lot of the time even in the dead of winter 5-6 ft. From what little I’ve experienced with livescope, and from videos I’ve watched and threads I’ve read, it seems like perspective mode will be about the only solid option for fishing that shallow of water. Is that a fair assumption? Would love to hear from those who have some experience with perspective. Is it as effective as forward and down view? Can I run forward view in that shallow of water and be effective? I’m just about ready to make the leap, but it’s a fairly large monetary commitment, thanks in advance!

    Default Perspective Mode

One other thing. Are you easily able to see your lure in perspective mode like you are in regular forward or down?

I fish a lot around here in 7-12 feet of water and use the forward view most of the time just fine. If less than 10 foot of water I use longer jig rods to stay as far away from the fish as possible. I have limited experience with perspective mode. But I can see my lure on there. I use it to search an area I am not familiar with faster then switch to forward mode and fish most the time

I wouldn’t say you can always see your lure clearly, but at those depths it would be easier if you have an adjustable mount. Get an infinite adjustable mount for the transducer (Summit or DIY and I’m sure there are others) so you can adjust the transducer cone angle in perspective mode to keep your lure in the 20° cone. Garmin’s mount is indexed and cannot be finely adjusted.

My DIY mount on a PVC pole can me adjusted this way. I’m able to see the lure by adjusting the transducer angle. Also, if set the angle to view parallel with the water’s surface you can see your lure splash. Often times at those depths I’m just trying to be roughly near the fish.

    Great information, thank you!

I've only used perspective mode a couple times and it's so cluttered and "busy" on the screen that I can barely see fish. I know I need to work on my settings but it's not what I thought it would be. IMO, if you don't already have it, there's no way I'd buy a LS right now until I saw what HB was coming out with in the spring. If you wait til then and don't want to spend that much money, you can buy my LS unit. LOL

I always have to adjust my gain down while in perspective mode. For whatever reason auto is too high causing plenty of clutter. No big deal to adjust that. The transducer angle I spoke of above is also something that needs adjusted to “see fish”. I’ve had very good results with perspective, but you have to play around with it to learn a few adjustments. I was of your opinion when I tried it the first time until I gave it a fair shake.

If the OP waits until the HB unit, he may miss the rebate on a new system. Up to him though.

What angle do you run your ducer? I had mine fairly flat, parallel to the surface of the water. I was in 4-7 FOW.

If we wait till the next best thing comes we all missing out on memories made now. Lowrance made vast improvements no doubt. Hummingbird will be in the fight But at the end of the day none of the 3 will be totally better than the other. And hummingbird is known for hurry up and wait. Saying March. But who knows. And they won’t release any videos. They are playing catch up again. Then garmin will drop gen 2 live scope and you catching up again and so on and so on. Buy when ya can afford it and enjoy. You will never catch up with this game. Lol.
