    Default humminbird 898c question

I have a 898c locator which I pull off the boat when not in use. the last time I went fishing my maps and waypoints etc. would not work. I found where I suppose some critter chewed through my gps cable. I spliced it back together and got my speed and water temp back, but still no waypoints. will a new puck and cable be the fix for this, or could n=my chips have gone bad? thanks

I would suggest hooking up to someone else rig, my guess is the wire on the gps is bad, We are west of Springfield near Republic not sure where you are. I did have a 1198 a few years ago that had a bad weigh point that knocked everything out finally got a hard reset to take. There are some folks in the main electronics board who know much more than me.

Water temp has nothing to do with GPS puck. Did you have more than one cable chewed? Far as waypoints the should be saved in head unit separate from map card. Think first thing I’d do is remove map card and do a factory rest. Then try it out with card. If you got a good speed reading that tells me you are getting a signal through the puck. Did you make any changes to unit trying to get it to work before discovering cable chewed up.

no, I did not make any changes, im not tec savvy so I tend to stay away from all that. the other thing is I have a lakemaster chip but Im not getting any mapping of any kind. seems like the transducer is working good as far as other wires chewed up, getting down and side image and regular sonar.

I’m not real good without putting my hands on it. Sounds as if something is amiss in card slot or settings. I’m going to move this over to electronics page where we can get Rickie and some other more knowledgeable eyes on it. Someone of us will get you straightened out. Just have patience.

If you’re not getting map views at all (only getting Sonar views) - the unit is not recognizing the GPS antenna (898 does not have built in GPS option at all) = test your unit on another GPS antenna ...

If you’re getting map views but with no contour lines - the card slot is bad or the map card is bad ...

Which scenario above is your issue ...??

Then for sure the unit is not recognizing the GPS antenna ...

Test your unit on another GPS antenna ...
