Default heading sensor vs GPS receiver

I need some help with this one.
In process of installing ulterra ipilot link.
Does the minnkota heading sensor replace my current GPS receiver going to humminbird or do I need to use both?

You still need both. The MK heading sensor is an electronic compass, to determine which way the boat is pointing, and has nothing to do with GPS.

    Thanks for quick reply.
I was afraid that was going to be the answer. Not a big deal, just non magnetic fields in the boat is sure at a premium.

You could go with the AS GPS HS to combine the functions of the 2 units.
To help with the ferrous metals/electromagnetic fields, try cutting a circle the same size as your puck out of a dollar store white melamine cutting board. Drill the 2 mounting screw holes and the center cable hole, and mount the puck on top.

Let me add a tad of info for options ...

    The Ulterra has GPS ...
The Minn Kota puck is a heading sensor only ...

It is possible for the HB to subscribe to use the GPS from the Terrova and the heading from the Minn Kota puck ...

HELIX units cannot separate the functions - it’s subscribe to both GPS and heading from the Ulterra/Minn Kota puck ... or get GPS and heading from another source ...

Thanks Rickie but I’m still confused.
    Running helix 10 g3n si.
    Ulterra link ipilot

Do I need to use the gps puck from humminbird to have my boat visible on screen and the minnkota heading sensor to allow the ulterra to spot lock?

I'm not using a Humminbird GPS puck, I use the GPS and heading sensor from an Ultrex for a Helix G2N.
