The G3 8 and G3 9 are the same physical unit, the 9 just has a larger display in it. The 8 will have a larger black border. In the G1 and G2, the 9 and the 10 were the same physical size.
If it were me, I would get the 9 since you will not save any room on the boat by getting the 8.
As mentioned by others, CHO means control head only. This is new for the G3s, and was not previously an option with the G1 or G2. My suspicion is this model was introduced due to the multiple offerings of transducers now in trolling motors, as well as the MEGA 360.
In any event, you can certainly buy the transducer separate. Not sure how much it is for the 8/9, or if it's the same as the 10, but I know the ones for the 10s & 12s run several hundred dollars for a MEGA+ SI unit.
Totally correct, my bad. I was looking at the G2 dimension. Cramming all the specs in one document, and it all starts looking alike.
So, Ga Bow, an H8 cover should fit the H9 - as long as both are G3N models.
