    Good idea

How fast were you going with the big motor?

3-4 mph idle speed with the big motor.

WHEN trolling with big motor, I use the trolling motor to steer the boat up to 2.5 -3 mph. Works good. Lernt this from my pal Jeff White in early 2000's.

When I first got my boat I had a kicker motor on there and used the trolling motor to steer .... til I found out that with my 24V
terrova on my tin boat I can go 5 mph with the big motor trimmed up out of the water.

So .... i just got a couple 12V golf cart batteries and ditched the kicker motor. When those batteries go bad I'm going to upgrade to LiFePo and be done with it. I'm learning to build my own now and can do it for cheap.

So you have the big motor running too?
    Sit upfront?

yes. i put the big motor center strait. I control direction with the trolling motor. Doesn't take much power for the tm to steer the boat l/r. Sometimes if I want to slow the big engine speed down, I reverse the the direction of the trolling motor.

You still steer the boat with the big motor running, but to turn, you aim the trolling motor in the opposite direction.

If your big motor speed is 1.5 mph, reversing the trolling motor speed will subtract from that speed. It doesnt take much to slow the boat. This saves tm batteries drain.
