    Default GPS puck

Is there any advantage to running a puck over the internal GPS on a unit other than being able to locate it anywhere on the boat? Is the accuracy any better? Does it pick up faster? What if any?

No, however I have one over the bow transduce and one right over the transom transducer. If you have none, then you'll be marking where the head unit is not where the transducer is located at. Or if you mount it any other place the waypoint is marked at the location of the GPS antenna. The high speed GPS antennas do load up a lot faster, and I think a bit more accurate.

Thanks that's kinda what I thought. I was going to be mounting it directly under my unit on the bow of there was any improvement but I think I'll save a couple of holes in my bow and just use the unit.

He was partially correct . The puck needs to be located close as possiable to transducer if your looking for accurancy . But on Humminbird they are built in head unit and if boat is not moving you get a circle instead of boat on screen . Buy one with heading sensor/compass in the anntenna/puck . Will show where and direction boat pointed even sitting still .

I have both of my GPS antennas compass and heading sensor. As you can see the bow is mounted right on top of the transducer. As a side note the fixture is one sweet unit. Built like a battleship. Name: 20191003_180058.jpg

One should remember 2 things ..:

    1. What you see on the Sonar screen (from the xducer) is “under the transducer” ...
    2. What you waypoint mark is “above the GPS antenna” ...

To get the most accurate waypoints - #1 and #2 above must be as close as possible to each other ...

If it's a Lowrance it depends on the unit and the puck.
