On the SC forum there is a sticky for "Depth Finder interpretations ". Might have some of your answers there. If not post your question on that thread and you should get a answer. I had a Helix 5 but sold boat that it was on.
Is it ok for me to have a thread where I post continuous dumb questions about my helix.
Bought it a good bit back but haven’t got to use it but a few times. It intimidates me.
Going out with it tomor and even contemplated pulling it off so I didn’t get distracted from the objective of catching, which shldnt be a problem.
I’d like to be able to continue w/ questions wo starting a new threads that’ll just clutter up yalls progress.
Cool or no?

It's fine to do that right here in this thread or start another. Just look at the sticky threads at the top of this page and you'll see MY 88 page thread on my Elite 5DSI
Cray is right on two counts : Rickie (rnvnc) is our resident Humminbird guru & can/will answer your questions, and there is no such thing as a "dumb question" as that very question may be one that others hesitate to ask or not think of to ask.
Threads get pushed to the top each time a reply is added ... Fire away ...

The best thing and hardest thing I ever did was the first time I had a Humminbird 797 SI ( years ago ) was leave all my fishing gear at home and spent the entire day playing with the 797. A good friend of mine helped me with this,,,,Quit trying to figure out what was on the bottom for structure and trying to figure out what I was seeing, instead strictly look for fish and nothing else. Who cares what that thing is if there are no fish around it, what was happening is I was so intent on the object that I did not pay attention to the rest of the screen.
After that I set up my depth finder totally different then what most recommend, as I do not care about a pretty picture I run my scroll speed faster so any fish marks get elongated and makes them easier to see. I will also keep up my enhance menu up at all times so I can adjust from soft to hard bottom or depth changes I never just turn it on and leave the same settings all day. Once I find fish then I will swing back around, slow down scroll speed and figure out why those fish are there.

Fire away Micro! Good idea keeping it all in one thread.

Ask all the questions you want here. We don't have many rules, mostly just the "kid friendly" rules.

Thx for any advice, suggestions, help in advance guys. I really do appreciate it. I’m good at very few things in life and I’m a pretty decent fisherman in my paddle boat, but time to venture out more with the boys.
My HB is a gen 2 si/di gps model
Transducer in box is
XNT 9 SI 180 T
So basically If I get to go fishing this coming Saturday I want to narrow down a few things and go from there. I want to see how far down my transducer pole needs to be in the shallowest water I will be fishing so I can cut the pole to eliminate as much obstruction for jigging. I work a lot structure just vertically or pitching in and around.
THEN I want to be able to adjust the Bird depth offset of the transducer. I’ve yet to find that setting that I had in an older unit years back on a portable depth finder.
That’s my two main things at this point.
The other is prob pretty basic to all yall and may have been answered for me at one point when I was fishing a lil more regularly and I didn’t jot it down. Bc didn’t take motor boat out.
Under the sonar tab and “connected transducer” area, my options are:
1) compact side imaging
2) HB 50/200 kHz + 455 kHz SI
3) HB 83/200 kHz
4) HB 50/200 kHz
5)-8) generic low, medium, high & 50/200 kHz
This is all Arabic to me.
Are all of these options within my one transducer or is it asking me to pick which option my transducer is capable of
Couple shots from where I sit at in my yard when the good lord allows

Is the model Helix you have a G2 or a standard Helix as listed in the 1st qoute above as one of the compatable units?
Is this a used unit?
