    Default HDS Gen3 Help

On 2D sonar why can't I receive big arches when looking at big fish? When I kick it out of gear and drift they show up as big arches but when I am idling around they just look like round blobs.

Fish arches in the 2d image are created by the target (fish) being farther away from the xducer entering and leaving the Sonar cone as compared to the target (fish) being closer to the xducer in the center of the cone ...

Narrower Sonar cones do not have as extreme differences in distance in the edges of the Sonar cone vs in the center of the Sonar cone ...

So as per your illustration I should be seeing some fish arches. Especially on a school of fish. We both know that they are not all pointed or swimming in the same direction so some of them should cross my cone angle correctly to create arches. My boat idles at about 3.3 MPH,no arches, when I kick it in neutral and it slows down to drift speed I get arches. I don't even get partial arches due to a unlevel transducer. All I get is round blobs. Something is wrong,I have been running Lowrance products for over 15 years. I'm running Gen3 units now with the latest updates installed.

Is your 2d frequency set on the wider cone setting (83kHz or Wide CHIRP) ...??

I have pretty much tried all of my 2d transducer settings.
    I installed a new 83/200 skimmer yesterday but have not tried it. I really don't think that's the problem,but I don't know.
Do you have any screen shots of yours?

I don't have any pix of 2d arches of my own ...

Spider rigging at 0.4mph is not very conducive to creating arches ...

I do need to add that to my list of pix to get for demonstration ...

That's what mine looks like when drifting but at idle speed all that turns to round blobs.

So is there a fix to this. I'm using it at idle speed.
