    Default Depth finder questions

Have 2 new units. Wanting to get familiar with them before I start using. Can I hook these up to a jump box that has a 12 volt outlet to use in the house. Also if I adjust some of the settings in simulator mode will they stay saved when I put these units back on the boat. I know I can buy a box that will run these units from household current but would just as soon run them off of jump box I already have. Thanks

do you have an extra car or lawn mower battery? you don't need anything special. just hook up your wires and you are ready to go., and yes, what you change in the simulator will be saved.

yes just make sure you wire it with the proper fuse inline just like you would on the boat.

Dwight ... I did the same thing when I first got my Lowrance Elite 5DSI unit. I downloaded and printed out the Operation Manual, too.

Luckily I got 2 sets of power/transducer cables in the deal (bought it from a member off the classifieds). I already had a portable Jumper Battery. I put one set on the boat & used the other set to "play with" the unit in the comfort of my living room. Shortly thereafter, I found the website of the KDFWR that has the GPS coords of all the habitats they placed in our lakes. Back then they were in a GPS format that my E5DSI did not recognize, so I wrote them down and then found a website that converted them over to the format the unit understood. I wrote down those GPS coords & fired up the unit on the jumper battery, then proceeded to manually enter all 200 coords for the three lakes I fish most often. Might have taken me a couple hours, but once I got a rhythm down it went pretty smoothly.

Thanks cp and I will keep that in mind. I have several old paper maps with coordinates on them that i would love to have on my units. I need to get my power cord and should be ready to go. Need to learn how to enter coordinates.
