So I connected my Humminbird Helix 10 to my older Humminbird 898 using the ethernet cable . I must say I did a darn good job of it Everything worked as it should; but, there was one screw left to reattach an access panel, which I had removed to hide the ethernet cable. So, I put the screw back in and turned my electronics on to make sure everything was ok. Yep, I put the screw right through the cable. Trust me on this, this project was a sure enough job. If I need to replace the cable, so be it. But if can be spliced I'll save several hours of work. Does anyone know if the ethernet wire can be spliced?
