Default Helix 7 SI transducer clicking

I bought a used helix 7 SI gen 2 with xhs9hdsi180 transducer and tried it for first time today. When I turned it on and ran the transducer was making a noticeable clicking noise. I have a Xpress duck boat and mounted ducer on an old trolling motor shaft off to my side so it’s 2’ away from me. As I changed settings in the helix it would change the click. Then after an hour or so it quit clicking for a while then a little later I sped up to 1.5 mph and it started clicking again. So my question is is it supposed to click and if not what do I need to look at it to correct it?

My Helix 9 mega does the same thing. Some call it "firing" or "pinging" but most folks I have mentioned it to say it's normal. I hear it on my friends boat as well, he runs Helix 10's.

Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in....

If I turn my helix 10 to the lower 83 sonar frequency, it clicks loud. As long as I am running the higher 200 frequency, I don’t notice it.

Hearing the xducer click is normal ...

Water depth, depth of xducer in the water and frequency (and your hearing ability) will contribute to how audible the click actually is ...

Bob was making a funny ...
    -----

The transmit ping may not be heard all the time dependent on ...:

*Which frequency is being used ...
*Shallow water doesn't need as much power for the Sonar ping to reach bottom and back ...
*Ambient noise masking the audible click ...
