Default Time not displaying on HDS Gen 2 units?

I’ve been seeing several reports that HDS Gen 2 units have stopped displaying the time this week.

Lowrance keeps telling people the Air Force is doing maintenance or there is interference, but this is 100% BS.

What I believe is going on is there is a coding mistake in the firmware.

The time string decoded from GPS includes “GPS Week” which is a number that indicates how many weeks it’s been since the week of 29 August 1999. This number goes up every week until it reaches 1024 on 31 March next year, then it starts over at 0 on 7 April.

The reason this problem just showed up is that ever since these units were in R&D or in service, the GPS week has been 3 digits long. This past Sunday morning, the GPS week rolled over to 1000 which is the first time this code has ever seen a 4 digit week.

The bad news is Lowrance probably won’t fix it on these older units. The good news is the problem MIGHT go away on 7 April 2019.

If you are having this problem, contact Lowrance. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If they try to BS you with the maintenance story, call them out on their BS.

I bet you are correct, and I hope anyone with this issue calls in to complain.

I had to fight to get Lowrance to even take me seriously when I reported software issues trying to use Navionics SonarChart Live feature on my new Hook2-5 Splitshot sonar. They finally had me send in my unit, which is ridiculous since you can reproduce the issue on any Hook2 with any Navionics+ card. Then they sent it back saying that they would report the "software anomaly" to the product manager and I "might get a software update but not soon". In the meantime all their advertisements still claim this is a working feature, which is BS (30-yr HW and SW dev engineer here).

I am so sick of Lowrance's "crappie" customer service, I am selling the unit and buying something else.

Seems like at least some units are working again as of midnight. Week 1001 now.

I didn't even know HDS had a clock. But, I don't own a watch either. No schedule here.

I never have trouble with customer service. Attitude has a lot to do with C/S. It never pays to be a horses butt on either side. Remember, they folks just like you and I. Hound 'em. Don't cuss 'em. Donut man here.

This posting on bbc states it was military testing satellites on gps tests of some kind. While fishing Sat. My TI 7 would hardly draw a broken track and most times my mapping was totally off on my waypoints. I was ready to throw it in the lake. It never affected my Helix Mega 9 for some reason. Time not showing up on HDS units? - Page 3
if you read the thread, there is a schedule of military testing that is/was happening in diff. Parts of th US.

My Lowrance Elite 5DSI had the "time" (clock) function, but I never bothered to use it. For one, it blocked too much screen space (even on small digits), and for another, I already have a "clock" on my phone (I don't wear a watch) ... so, unless you're tournament fishing, I really see little reason to have the time taking up screen space on your unit.
I now have a Hook 7 unit (in place of the E5DSI), which likely has the time function ... but, I still see no major reason for using it.

One lake I fish is cut in half (more or less) by two time zones ... and some phones will adjust automatically when you cross the time zone line. Don't know if my current phone will, or not, because I haven't been there & crossed that line since getting it. Luckily for me, I don't have to know the time when out fishing (retired/bachelor) ... but, if/when I should need to know, I can always check my phone.

Testing line is 100% BS. I have over 200 GPS receivers running 24/7 without a hitch. It is a unit issue.
