At that price point I'd go for the Lowrance Hook2 4x. The landscape display is more useful. Plus it has basic maps.

I know that most of the threads here deal with much more advanced electronics. However, I only take my boat out 6-8 times a year, have a house full of kids, and a stay at home wife. So until I retire or get all the kids out of the house I just can't justify spending much at all on electronics. Now that I've converted to crappie fishing almost exclusively, I would like to upgrade over the 35 year old flasher I have mounted on my TM. My dad has the little Humminbird 197c on the front of his old boat and I was impressed with how well it worked the last couple of times I've gone out with him. While looking at it online I ran across the Garmin Striker 4 for $100 on Amazon. Yes, its got a little bitty display, but it looks pretty clear and I like that it gives water temp and trolling speed. See, I'm easily impressed after being used to nothing but the old flasher. Any thoughts on on a new depthfinder considering my or a similar situation would be appreciated. Thanks!

Either will work . Given good eyes and lack of gps (maps) most 3/4 inch are very similar in ability .
