I like hearing my Bird chirping.. Makes for a quick look without staring at the screen with cluttered objects it shows the depths those fish are located
Well, I assumed using fish ID would be a good thing particularly after Rickie showed me how to size it so crappie sized fish showed. Now I seem to be disappointed when I see fish on my screen yet do not catch anything. Yes, yes, I know, there is more to it then just knowing fish are below. Is there any negative impact on the screen clarity or other issues when fish ID is on? I see fewer folks even using it. Perspectives please?

I don't use it. I have always preferred raw sonar. Image interpretation is easier now a days with awesome target separation and Down Imaging...

Wayne P over at BBC did a great write up about this a while back....maybe he has changed his mind because it was done I think a year or so ago.....maybe longer. I read it and it makes a lot of sense.....I come from a radar background not sonar but the principle is the same. HB supposedly has some pretty good algorithms to ID a fish....sometimes the sonar will not show fish on the screen but they are there and the software will give you an ID symbol. This same thing happens in radar systems......the target may not get drawn out on the screen but the computer sees it and gives you a hook. Wayne P had several screen images to prove his point.

I don't use it as i had heard several "Pro's" say that it gives off false positives or Id's structure as fish. Interested to see what others say. I like the challenge of looking at the data and figuring it out. i never heard that the sonar won't display fish even though it sees it.

Don’t use it. When the wife does fish, she likes it on the back of the boat which she fishes from. I wouldn’t trust her to see a fish on any of my depth finders tho.

I always thought the fish i d does give false signals. ????? I d ing structure as fish.
Just this year I've started using mine. Don't think it's always right but sometimes I think it's right on the money. I would like to know the settings that he showed you.
