Excellent unit! Just be aware that the X has a gps but no mapping capability
Any good? Seems like a good deal at $399. Never messed with fish finders before though

Don't really need maps...just need a smallish unit for a 2 man inflatable sea eagle 375fc pontoon. Only have an electric motor on it. Was just kinda stoked to see side imaging, and more than a 5" screen for $400
I'm assuming he meant you can't add maps to it. In other words, purchase lake maps and such.
There is a gps so you can mark trails, waypoints but w/o maps
well the 7" wouldn't work with my mini toon...won't mount to Scotty mount...ended up getting the Hook2 5 tripleshot...$399...2" smaller screen but, it has maps so...I'll let yall know how it works out
I just hope you can get that inflatable toon up to enough speed to get a readable screen on the side imaging. Might even be a good idea to set the screen to only one side, so you have the full width of the screen to see what's out there.
As I understand it, SI works "best" at speeds around 3-5mph .... but, slower speeds just elongate the white "spots" (fish) into white "streaks". If the unit has the capability of changing chart/ping speed, then matching that speed with the boat speed can somewhat counteract that stretching effect. Check your user manual to see if/how you can change your chart/ping speed.
I don't have a SI unit, this is just some things I've heard/read about them. My current unit is a regular Hook 7 (2d/DI/GPS/map) ... which I mainly use as a DI unit. (I have little to no use for 2d imaging) Unit was purchased to replace a Lowrance Elite 5 DSI (when one of the pins in the connection port broke off).
