Is it possible to upgrade my 2014 terrova to the new type with the improved spot lock ?????? RR
I has a puck as well that has to be mounted. Not sure this upgrade is available, could be wrong.

I have called Minn Kota on this twice. Once very recently as in last month or two. No is the answer your going to get. Minn kota will not acknowledge the spot lock on the old ones is terrible. The lady I spoke with said that if I was having problems with the unit going back and forth too fast and sporadically that I could take off the top of the head and twist the red and black wires together more. But to not twist them to much as it would damage the unit. She also said that my 24 volt 80lb thrust was WAY to big for my boat and that was the biggest problem. Apparently the new motors have a feature to put in boat size so it knows what kinda power it should have. Also they have a heading sensor in the head. I have heard a few people say they have added heading sensors and it helped. But the lady at Minn Kota said it wouldn't do anything to help. So who knows.

LOL wonder that twisting wires more has to do with making spot lock work better . The 80lb thrust is probably Way to big for my 18 ft boat But I need the power when fishing current and high wind, guess MK doesn't know this LOL RR

I can understand the interference thing but my question is why aren’t the wires twisted right from the factory? And since my unit is out of warranty now what happens when I twist to tight after doing what they told me? I believe they completely remodeled the head on the new units to fix most of the issues but they should offer some type of fix for the old or a buy back system

Here is the age old problem, if they sell you the updated head unit then it keeps you from buying the new latest greates motor. I have read a couple of stories that when they first introduced the new spot lock feature a few guys got their hands on them before MK realized they were going out the door and being used for upgrades. Then they put the brakes on it. Don't know if you can even buy a terrova without Ipilot today and then upgrade to new Ipilot.

The answer is no. When the 2nd gen first came out I called and was given a price of 500 bucks to get the upgraded head...remote...and GPS puck. I said “ Let me think about it”. Three days later called and said let’s do it....then was told those offers were rescinded. The lady was very nice and politely told me marketing had stopped it. I should have done the deal when I first called.
