    Default Ulterra puck location?

How close to the TM does the puck need to be placed? Can it be mounted too close? I could mount it right beside the TM if that will work.

I have mine mounted on the bow about a foot behind the TM when it's deployed and it's worked just fine. I've seen them mounted in all sorts of places from bow to stern. I'd guess that as long as it's mounted in the open and oriented correctly, it probably doesn't matter.

What Ulterra puck? If referring to the Heading Sensor for the new Bluetooth TMs, then might need to check for interference with TM deployed and running. If referring to a GPS receiver for the FF, in general as close to transducer as possible for accurate waypoints. IF a GPS with Heading then need to verify no interference.

It's the white round hockey puck size thing that came in the box with the Ulterra. I think it's an electronic compass.

That would be correct for the new Bluetooth TMs. Ok to place up near the TM as long as you check for any major interference with a compass or can use your cell phone compass if you have that. It is used primarily for the Jog function on the TM. This is where I placed mine for a Ultrex.

Don't think it matters where its located as long as its oriented parallel to the center line of the boat. I mounted mine by the console and have the arrow pointed to the front.

What he said. As long as it can (see) the trolling motor so it can communicate AND not have any interference (long thread on this issue explains it well) it can go most anywhere on the boat. The primary use, as I understand, is for spot JOG, the ability to move 5’ in any direction. This capability is extremely handy when working over an area with more than one brush pile. I just mounted mine on the bow out of the way of any wayward feet to make it easier to thread (using a fish tape) the cord to connect to the TM. Make sense?
