It's a good idea to save the update on your PC instead of on the SD card ...
It won't really hurt anything residing on the SD card ... But ...

Just a quick question; after you have installed your update can you now save you waypoints and tracks to the same SD card or should I remove the update and store on my computer and just leave the blank SD card in for saving the data. I know I have to keep my lake maps card in one of the slots and I keep that card locked so I don't mess it up.

Allow me to share a bit of experience. A few years back, I update and did not delete the update from my sd card. When the next update came out, I loaded up to the same sd card, forgetting I still had the previous .bin file still on my card. I updated as normal, and lost all functions from my transducer (sonar, DI and SI). I took me over 2 months of reading, asking, and playing with my unit, until I finally found a post on another site that when you updated from a card with 2 versions, it confused the unit and shut it down. I checked my card, found the 2 .bin files and deleted the oldest. I then updated and been working good since. Just my experience!!

I keep a separate card just for updates and always reformat it after each update. Always good to keep a backup on the computer.
