    Default XI5 VS TERROVA

Considering both of these, but the MG with remote and wireless pedal I can get a refurb for just under 1K. The Terrova is $$1400 for refurb. What little I know is the wireless pedal kind of scares me on the MG. Anyone have time with both? Looking at 24V 70 and 80lber's

I too have considered both, but have not used either. With that said I lean towards the terrova mainly for the the screen display on the remote. It displays the settings you are currently running where the xi5 only has buttons and no screen. From what I have read and the new version spotlock from Minn Kota looks to be much improved as well.
    Keep on keepin on!!!

I run the 24v 80# on a 1875 Lund impact. I like the screen on the hand remote. It tells you how fast your go and you can record up 6 different paths. Then you can replay them and the motor will drive itself while you fish. It kind of make the wife uncomfortable. Lol. I can go as little as .2 mph up to 3 mph. I haven’t ran the xi5. The spot lock on the terrova fights the wind and doesn’t hold that great. It helps going real slow or stopped before settling it.
All in all I do like it and all of the options it has.
    Hope this helps

I have an Ulterra. It is an old man's dream machine. The spot lock (aka pee lock) lets me stay "near" where I was so to tie on a new bait or take a pee without drifting too far from where I was when I stopped. The best way to stay near a location is use a buoy marker. Had me ultra 3 years. No problems. I do like the motor guide XI5. I wish motor guide would come up with a deploy version.

    Spend that money.

If the MinnKota is an older model refurb, it's spot lock will be no where near as good as the Xi5. No screen on the Xi5 is definitely a con, but I'd rather deal with that, than the poor spot lock on previous MinnKotas.

I have had a xi5 for three summers now 2 summers linked to a HDS lowrance touch, the good things I've found on the xi5...Anchor lock,Goto waypoint, and record trail and playback. The so so things,Heading lock wanders a little I have to make small adjustments to stay on course, the create (with the HDS)and follow route feature, the xi5 likes to cut corners on the route some times by hundreds of feet. The feature that's the least reliable is the cruise control it randomly ramps up to wide open and doesn't slow down unless you power it off, this is a well known problem if you search the net,Motorguide doesn't seem to have a fix for it. I still use the cruise a lot I've just got handy at shutting it off and running though the start up sequence again.

Shellback, genec & I all bought our Xi5's about the same time which was almost 3 years ago. It is a fine machine with accurate spot lock. I think all spot lock trolling motors start searching in a "no wind" condition. When in a no wind condition, I use the foot pedal for small corrections in drift. I have a Lowrance Point 1 with heading sensor & course so I can tell which way I am drifting.

Genec is a cable steering fisherman so he now has a MK Ultrex and loves it. I do not have room up front for the Ultrex as I have a dropped deck.

Shellback has a Lund tiller steer and works his Xi5 with a Lowrance Elite Ti from the back and likes it.
