    Default Updating software, 1st time

I shouldn't be but I'm nervous about goofing something up and having it not work right after the update. I've read how to do it and printed out the instructions, too.

It came with version 1.210, I see there is a 1.35 version and now 1.46 as the latest version. This is for a 1st generation, Helix 10SI GPS , no chirp or mega.

Do I have to install the 1.35 1st or can I go right to 1.46? I have a good SD card for the transfer of files.

I have no interest in the base map update at this time. My reading indicates that I don't have to update that feature if I don't want it and it won't automatically do it on its own. I don't use the mapping option (yet), don't know that I ever will.

I really want that split screen top/bottom view of the full width SI that Rickie mentioned in another thread. If it improves the clarity or quality of other stuff that's good too.

I would think u want the 1.46 as the possibilities are there before you if you ever want to use them. It also has bug fixes. It’s not hard to update so do both for the heck of it to make sure you get all the bug fixes and anything else Hummingbird is offering you. Base map is really great looking maps and I have Navionics and think they look better than Navionics but they don’t like lakemaster have 3 nice res./lakes for Indiana of which I sometimes fish, while having little junk lakes that are 3 acres or bigger. That I don’t understand, but still very nice maps.

Any version has all features and fixes of previous updates so it doesn't hurt to skip versions ...

There are a few preparations that are advised before updating ...

It's a good idea to export the waypoints and verify in HBPC that you have exported a hard copy of your waypoint library ...

    Then ...:

*Remove any map cards just in case ...
*Power on the unit by itself (no other Ethernet devices powered on) ...
*Restore Defaults under the Setup tab ...
*Insert the SD card that contains the update ...
*Select Yes from the green popup to confirm you want to update ...
*Select No from the red popup to confirm you do not want to Abort the update ...
*Wait for the unit to update and restart itself ...
*Press Exit when it boots to the Navigation disclaimer screen ...
    *Remove SD card
*Restore Defaults under the Setup tab once again ...

I dont know for helix, but I just did our Solix ultrex and 360. HB CS told me to power on all units at the same time. They have a priority update order it will follow.

I'll probably do this tonight after dinner but another question comes to mind. After going through the intro screens, it will get to the menu where you choose normal or simulator mode; does it matter which I choose? If the normal mode, should I turn the sonar off or leave it on while doing the update? I don't want to damage the transducer while transmitting out of the water if it's on for any length of time. I would normally be in simulator mode to watch recordings or tinker with settings or in this case, to restore defaults. Common sense tells me I should be in simulator mode but better to ask the questions now rather than later.
    Thanks for the help, guys.

SUCCESS! Did it from the simulator menu, HB customer service told me it could be done from either normal or simulator. No problems encountered.

    Good deal ...

Be sure to keep that .bin file update on your PC somewhere ...

You may need it in the future ... (and access to it in your HB account will be gone once a newer update comes out) ...
