    Default Transducer Damage HB 898

We took the pontoon for a check out ride this afternoon on the Rez. I had trouble with the Humminbird 898 giving an image. When we returned to the slip, I found the transducer casing was missing. Prior to installing the boatlift this winter the boat stayed in the water all year. I have attached a pictureName: IMG_0179.JPG

maybe hit something and water got inside it and it froze over winter and cracked it, when you went out water pressure finished it off?? just guessing ?

From the picture I'm going to say the reason for bad reading is the angle the transducer is sitting. It needs to be parallel with the bottom. Also looks like just the protective coating on out side has started to come off from sitting in the water for so long. Unless there is something I can't see in photo no reason for it not to work. You need to adjust down level, scrub face of ducer with fine steel wool real lightly to get in build up off it and give it another try.

Thanks for the responses. I had not seen this problem mentioned anywhere before. I am not sure what happened to the transducer. It worked as we were leaving Main Harbor and then stopped as we were cruising up the channel at 15 to 17 MPH. I do not remember hitting anything. I did not think it got cold enough to damage the transducer afeter we installed the lift.

I am waiting on a response from Humminbird to I can order a new one. I would like to take advantage of this problem to upgrade units but we just bought a new AC unit for the house. I looked at the new systems at the Bassmaster tournement and they were nice. I guess a new transducer will be ordered tomorrow. It will be fun to install it over the water.

    Thanks again for the responses.

Brian at BBG Marine came through on the transducer. Great price and shipped today.
